Education and Technology

Globalization and Technology have Positively Impacted the Field of Education

As globalization found its way deep inside our societies and our culture, it also started to affect the education of system of various countries. What sees around us today, the mass schooling of children, vocational training of students, etc can be seen as one of the first and major effects of globalization on the world education system and policies (Liz 7). The opportunities and resources that now the student have were not accessible to children studying in the pre-globalization era. The rapid change in the education system and emerging bonds between various educational systems of countries in turn led to the development of the economy at large this globe.

The strengthening of economies brought technological development in the nation. Slowly and steadily the use of technology was introduced in the field of education. Students can access any study material regardless of their location and time. Teachers at schools are now using technology to educate young minds more efficiently. New software are being released into the market to enhance the learning capability of the students. Online classes are giving students education at the pace suitable with the students. Internet at large have made education simpler and effective.

These technological developments are not limited to the traditional education at school and colleges. People are now learning new skills everyday with the help of some websites like Coursera, Udemy, Skillshare, etc (Barmiah 2). These websites are collaborating with various top tier colleges and instructors to bring out new courses that now affordable and available to all. All this electronic transmission media has helped to spread quality education to huge chunk of population.

All this huge development in the sector of education have affected it positively without any doubt, but somehow it has also negatively affected this field too. Due to the introduction of extensive use of technology, students are depending on the sources that present online rather than what is readily available in their coursebooks. Malpractices among students such as cheating in their exams, cyberbullying, etc have also increased. This negative impacts of the technology on the field of education cannot be disregarded.

The negative impacts of technology and globalization had made education systems across the globe more and more competent but also made students along with the instructors heavily dependent on technology for even the some of the most basic tasks that they tackle in their day-to-day life. The very essence of the classroom study is slowly being diminished as most of the classwork are now being uploaded on an online portal. This has made the study material more accessible but have given students multiple reason to skip schools. This is not only reducing the very essence of schools but also degrading the quality of education among the new generation of the students.

These impacts can't be ignored as it will have huge hand in shaping the future world. But, if we could limit the use of the technology, balance out the use of technology and traditional methods of studying, tehn. it can drastically decrease the negative effects of technology on the field of education. The generous use of both traditional and modern teaching techniques could really improve the overall quality of education which in-turn will have a positive impact on shaping our future world economies. This is the beauty of globalization. It produces problems but the solutions are hidden inside the problem itself!

  1. Hi Chaitanya,

Coincidently we have written a blog on the same topic. I really like how you talked about the difference in education methods under globalization and traditional education methods. I also liked how you mentioned/emphasized the cons of technology in globalization along with the pros. I completely agree on how physical learning in the classroom is really important for the growth of a child.
